He was raised by a single mother because his father left his mother before Proof’s birth in order to pursue his career.
With D12, Proof released the group’s debut studio album Devil’s Night on June 19, 2001, via Shady Records and Interscope Records. The album won the 2002 ECHO Award for “Best Hip-Hop/Urban Artist (International)” as well as peaked at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard) chart. Also, it was certified ‘2× Platinum’ by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
D12‘s 2nd and final studio album titled D12 World was released on April 27, 2004, and it peaked at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart as well as the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard) chart.
In 2002, Proof made his first theatrical film appearance as Lil’ Tic in the drama film 8 Mile. Named one of the best films of 2002 by several publications, the film stars Eminem, Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Michael Shannon, Anthony Mackie, and Kim Basinger.
On June 15, 2004, Proof released his solo debut studio album titled I Miss the Hip Hop Shop through Iron Fist Records. It includes songs such as E and 1 Equal None, People Hi for Change, Skit-Dolo Speaks 2, Love Letters, Bring It 2 Me (ft. Killa Khann), It Ain’t About Tha, and Play With Myself.
Proof’s 2nd and final studio album Searching for Jerry Garcia was released on August 9, 2005. The album consists of songs such as Forgive Me (ft. 50 Cent), Purple Gang, Clap wit Me (ft. Brief Encounter), Pimplikeness (ft. Kuniva, Swifty McVay, Eminem, and Bizarre of D12), No. T. Lose (ft. King Gordy), Sammy da Bull (ft. Nate Dogg and Swifty McVay), Slum Elementz (ft. Kon Artis of D12, T3, and Mudd), Biboa’s Theme, and High Rollers” (ft. B-Real and Method Man).
The album Searching for Jerry Garcia peaked at #8 on the US Independent Albums (Billboard) chart, at #16 on the US Top Rap Albums (Billboard) chart, at #33 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard) chart, and at #65 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Proof was a childhood friend of rapper Eminem. In January 2006, Proof was the best man at Eminem’s wedding.
